CR:X - Neilpryde op pad richting Olymsiche One-design?

De geruchten worden steeds harder dat Neilpryde alles op alles gaat zetten om naast het Windsurfen ook het kitesurfen als One-design naar de Olympische spelen te brengen en zo het alleenrecht op het kitesurf-materiaal bij te verwerven. Het lijkt te gaan om een convertible board waar zowel met als zonder foil mee geracet kan worden en twee ranges tubekites: een drie- en vijfstrutter.

De voordelen zijn dat het echt om de sporter draait en niet om het materiaal maar aan de andere kant kunnen ze veel meer vragen dan het materiaal waard is en forceert het een tweedeling in het race-circuit. Tevens is het hydrofoilen nog zo hard in ontwikkeling dat het vastleggen van 1 ontwerp het al achterhaald maakt zodra het op de markt verschijnt, zeker als dat een tubekite met non-race hydrofoil gaat worden.
Vrijwel alle huidige foil-racers zijn dan ook fel tegen dus of deze zet positief voor de sport gaat zijn valt nog te bezien.

In het windsurfen heb je de olympische RS-X klasse, geen windsurfer die er mee wil varen. Echter wil je olympisch dan moet je wel.

Toevallig is de Pryde groep ook verantwoordelijk voor dat materiaal...erg toevallig

Hele slechte zaak. De RS:X klasse laat windsurfen al van zijn minst aantrekkelijke kant zien. Alle spektakel is eruit. Is meer zeilen op een hele platte boot. Zit niet op hetzelfde te wachten met kitesurfen. Wat windsurfen en kitesurfen echt aantrekkelijk maakt is brute actie en skills in freestyle en wave. Heen en weer varen kan iedereen. ???? Slechte promotie van twee prachtige sporten!

Als onderdeel vd Olympische spelen is het wel handig als het ook met weinig wind gedaan kan worden. Wave en freestyle vallen daarmee af, blijft race over.. Zeker icm hydrofoils lijkt me dat een logische keuze.

Al eerder was race tot olympische sport verheven, toen is deze discussie ook al gevoerd.

Kudos voor NP voor het proberen om kitesurfen naar de Olympische spelen te krijgen. Vooral voor de racers onder ons lijkt me dat fantastisch nieuws.

De frontwing is wel anders dan de Cabrinha Double Agent.
O.a. een hogere AR.

Hopelijk vaart dit een beetje, maar het is krankzinnig dat dit de Olympische klasse gaat worden voor onze geliefde sport kitesurfen.

The CR:X One Design Class

Those of you familiar with other windsurfing and sailing disciplines will be familiar with the One Design concept. The logic goes that by riding the same kit we can open the playing field and more fairly compare riders. The CR:X Class is designed to be an affordable way both to start the sport, and to work your way into competitive foil racing. It’s still early days, but we’re enthusiastic about anything that encourages easy access to the sport and a spirit of competition! For those that don’t know, Neil Pryde are the guys behind Cabrinha kites, so if you were worried that you’d never heard of NP kites before, fear not. See what Neil Pryde have to say below:

The Class

NeilPryde is expanding our one-design program into kite racing with the introduction of CR:X, the world’s first one-design kite racing class.

CR:X is an innovative, versatile kite racing platform that features a convertible board that can be switched between fin and foil modes. Multiple modes mean that the same set of hardware can be used for beginner or more advanced foil races or in changing weather conditions.

Our mission is to create a community of kite racing enthusiasts of all levels and abilities and enable them to race on a level and affordable playing field. CR:X delivers on this promise through a one-design pathway Class where athletes can compete on affordable, matched equipment.
