10/04 - 17/04: WKL Mondial du vent

Coming up this April, 11th to the 17^th the world’s top kiteboarders will drop their board bags at La Franqui, in the south of France, for the first stop of the World Kiteboarding League 2017 Freestyle Elite League.

Since its creation 21 years ago, the Mondial Du Vent has become one of the largest and most well known global kiteboarding events. Over the years, Mairie de Leucate has provided innovative and progressive competition formats, gaining wider media coverage with each passing year.

The Mondial Du Vent is also famous for its well-known North Westerly wind: the Tramontana. This event is known for its challenging and tough conditions, that make it one of the most impressive tour stops. The side off-shore wind conditions prove to be ideal for spectators, allowing them front row seats to watch the impressive array of tricks from the top global kiteboarders.

The Mondial Du vent is a unique event that gathers many board sport disciplines at the same spot, allowing the public and riders to mingle with each other. World Champions from Windsurf, Kitesurf and SUP make this a friendly and open atmosphere that encourage many people to attend.  The Occitanie region has become well known for its wind conditions, and has built a solid economic system upon this, represented by the Mondial Du Vent partners in the “Village de la Gliss” that is set up along the beachfront in La Franqui.
