Slingshot is thrilled to introduce a radical new kite to its 2016 lineup – the Wave SST. With a design that will redefine the meaning of a true surf-specific kite, the Wave SST (Slingshot Surf Technology) features a Compact-C canopy and compact direct-connect bridal that looks like a cross between an RPM and a Rally, but performs unlike any kite on the market.

Built with significant and unrivaled upgrades to Slingshot’s already bombproof construction, the Wave SST (offered in 6, 8, 10 and 12 meter sizes) is sturdy enough to take a pounding in the surf, but light enough to track magically downwind, downloop on a dime and whip across the window at the flick of a wrist. For kiters serious about taking their wave skills to the next level, the Wave SST is the kite to take them there. The Wave SST is equipped with a modified version of Slingshot’s revolutionary new shock-absorbing IRS bridal (featured on the 2015 RPM), which provides instant feedback and response, unrivaled stability and is condensed enough that it can’t get wrapped around wingtips if rolled in the surf. With a shape that favors serious downwind drift, unbelievable turning speed even when fully sheeted-out and a feather-light feel when shredding down the line, slashing faces and bottom-turning, the Wave SST has set a new standard for what a wave kite can do for its riders.

Slingshot coined the term “Surf Tough” nearly 15 years ago with its unique seam technology, and its designers have taken that concept to another level with the Wave SST. The kite is constructed with an extra heavy duty Rip Stop Surf Grid canopy material and has extra panels reinforced in a gridded quilt pattern to provide increased strength in the event of a water landing. Op zich is de Rally een goede wavekite, dus dit is wel een verrassing. Blijkbaar is er een markt voor.

Ja, dat wordt lastig: Rally terug naar 2012, die vond ik minder fijn, en een wave kite waarvan je moet afwachten wat het doet... Lijkt inderdaad veel op de bestaande wavekites (Reo, RRD, BWS, Cabo, ...). De vraag is, heeft deze kite wel wat ik fijn vind, namelijk wat meer power in de kite als ik het wil, want dat mis ik. vaak bij de wavekites. Denk dat de meeste wave kites zeer goed zijn voor de gemiddelde pro kiter (vooral licht gewichten dus), maar ik ben 95 kg en dan heb je soms toch iets meer nodig

@ ed ok begrijp wat je bedoelt, en daar valt wat voor te zeggen echter als je een wave kite perfectioneert  dan wil je eigenlijk ook een zo goed mogelijk zittende kite die op bepaalde momenten perfect drift maar het gevoel geeft geen echte kite power te geven dus anders gezegd dat je de golf surft puur vanuit je board. Zelf moest ik ook eerst wennen aan deze gedachte verwerkt in de noise pro 2015, de 2011 2012 had veel meer power, maar nu gewend wil ik niet meer terug. Onlangs nog een limited edition gekocht van bws de sea shepherd omdat ik m zo mooi vond, dus heb nu dezelfde vlieger maar ander opdruk,  en de 2015 staat te koop voor zeeeeer scherp prijsje!! Ik denk dat de SS 2016 niet veel verschilt met de Noise pro 2015!!

Gleiten tv heeft een review. Zelden waren ze zo positief over een nieuwe kite, maar wel een nuttige waarschuwing op het einde:

De vaarstijl vergeleken met de huidige wavekites dien je dus wel aan te passen. Als ik het goed begrijp ook minder heen en weer gooien en meer hoog laten staan als ik het zo zie. Paar keer hele möoie drift eigenschappen in deze review. Voor onshore schijnt die dus ook spuer te zijn, vanwege hele korte draai en je dan niet vol de power er in krijgt.  Hoe het nu zit met dat die kite heel goed voor in windvenster te zetten valt en daarna weer terug kan zakkenbij het golfrijden. Hoe werkt dat of net als andere kites iets bar aangetrokken houden??  Lijkt idd  een rg goede wavekite, maar meer voor ervaren kiters? Lijkt me juist niet want kite hoog en je kan er nog goed mee waveriden.
verder erg direct, zonder katrollen,  waarbij zoals verwacht 10 en 12 wel veel langzamer zullen zijn. Deze dien je nog minder actief heen en weer te sturen.

Alleen zwaargewichten hebben wat aan een wavekite van 10 of 12m. Bijvoorbeeld ik als sub 70kg kiter heeft niets aan alles vanaf 10/11m, mits je graag de golf surft op de kracht van de golf, en niet met de kite.

Patrick Rebstock is hun teamrider, en zal ongetwijfeld heel veel gedaan hebben bij de ontwikkeling van deze kite.
Interessant op zijn minst!
